Halifax, NS (October 22, 2012) — Fierce Ink Press Co-op Ltd. is currently open for submission. The publisher is looking for books between 50,000 and 80,000 words long in all young adult genres.
“We love all genres,” says Colleen McKie, an executive with the company. “Dystopian, urban fantasy, high fantasy, spec fiction. We’re looking for it all. For us, the writing and the storytelling are more important than the genre. We’re looking for great stories.”
McKie and her business partner Kimberly Walsh approach publishing in new ways that allow for more interaction and collaboration between the publisher and author, including setting the company up as a co-op.
“We’re looking to break down some of the barriers in the traditional publishing model,” Walsh says. “Our business is founded on principles of collaboration and cooperation. We offer support like developmental editing and social media training in order to ensure a successful relationship not just between us and our authors but also Fierce Ink Press and the books we produce.”
Fierce Ink Press published its first book in September, the award-winning The Night Has Teeth by Kat Kruger. The company has also published two Fierce Shorts, Prince Nameless by Patti Larsen and Love You Like Suicide by Jo Treggiari, with more shorts planned for monthly release until September 2013.
Fierce Ink Press’s submission guidelines can be found on the website.
